§ Mrs. Mahonasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has to introduce conductive education, similar to that available in Hungary, for all children who need it.
§ Mrs. CurrieIt has not been clearly established that the system of conductive education practised at the Peto institute in Hungary would be appropriate in the United Kingdom. However, the Government are aware of the current interest in conductive eduction in this country, and the Department of Health and Social Security and the Department of Education and Science are jointly funding a survey by the Spastics Society into the extent to which some aspects of the system are being used in the United Kingdom. An application has been received from Birmingham university for assistance towards the cost of a four-year evaluation of the conductive education project being established in Birmingham by the National Foundation for Conductive Education, and this is being considered by both Departments.
