§ Mr. MellorNumbers of notifiable offences recorded in police force areas are published each year in the Command Paper "Criminal Statistics, England and Wales" (table 2.5 of the issue for 1985). Police in Wales recorded 4,810 offences of violence against the person in the 12 months ending March 1979, compared with 6,910 in the 12 months ending September 1986.
