asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether British citizens or British registered firms are permitted to invest in the armaments industry in South Africa; and if so whether they will undertake to make details of such investments available to the public.

The voluntary ban on new investment in South Africa announced on 30th October includes the armaments industry, but there are no restrictions on portfolio investment overseas by British citizens or firms; there are no plans for special arrangements to seek or to make available details of investments in particular countries or industries.
