HC Deb 26 January 1987 vol 109 c48W
Mr. Moynihan

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he has initiated over alleged financial irregularities in the affairs of the Sports Council; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Tracey

Following discovery of irregularities at one of the Sports Council's national centres, audit staff of the council and of the Department are examining the financial controls at all the national centres. This has already been drawn to the attention of the National Audit Office and Scottish, Welsh and Northern Ireland offices for any action they may need to take and, as soon as possible, the Department will consider what further advice may need to be given to other sponsored bodies.

It would not be possible to comment further in advance of the completion of police inquiries.
