HC Deb 21 January 1987 vol 108 c605W
81. Mr. Bidwell

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what response has been received to Her Majesty's Government's representations to the Saudi Arabian authorities and the United Arab Emirates to allow Christmas celebrations for Christians living in those countries.

Mr. Renton

We have made no representations to the Governments of either Saudi Arabia or the United Arab Emirates asking them to allow Christmas celebrations for Christians living in their countries.

However, we are concerned that British citizens in all countries should be able to worship privately in accordance with their conscience. Where problems may occur, the embassy monitors the situation closely and endeavours to ensure that suitable arrangements are made.
