§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Minister for the Arts what monitoring is undertaken by his Department in respect of the total amount spent on the Arts by public and private bodies.
§ Mr. Luce[pursuant to his reply, 18 December 1986, c. 629]: My Department is responsible for its own expenditure and monitors expenditure under the arts programme by the non-departmental public bodies for which I am responsible. The monitoring of expenditure by other public bodies concerned with the arts is a matter for the responsible sponsor Departments, although I am of course interested in the information.
The amount of expenditure on the arts by private bodies is a matter for the organisation and individuals concerned. Some information on this is available from CIPFA and the Policy Studies Institute which undertake research and public statistics in this area.
