asked the Secretary of State for Social Services when he plans to commence implementation of the provisions of the National Health Service (Amendment) Act 1986.

Sections 1 and 2 (application of food legislation and health and safety legislation to health authorities and health boards) will come into force on 7 February 1987. No decision has yet been taken on when to implement section 3 (pharmaceutical services). Section 4 (remuneration of the family pratitioner contractor professions) came into force on 7 November. Section 5 (joint-planning of health services in Scotland) contains two new sections to the National Health Service (Scotland) Act 1978.

Section 13A came into force on 7 November; section 13B, which provides back-up powers to the present voluntary arrangements for joint-planning of health services in Scotland, will be brought into force only if the voluntary arrangements fail to meet their objectives. The miscellaneous provisions in sections 6 to 8 came into force on 7 November.
