HC Deb 12 January 1987 vol 108 cc35-6W
Mr. Dobson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations have been received by his Department from the Commission for Local Administration about changes in the Local Government Act 1974.

Dr. Boyson

The Commission for Local Adminstration in England submitted review documents to central Government in 1978, 1980 and 1984, formally proposing changes in the 1974 Act. The text of those submissions and of the Government's responses were published in the Commissions annual reports, copies of which are deposited in the Library. The Commission also submitted to the Department its comments on proposals for change made in 1986 by the Select Committee on the Parliamentary Commissioner for Adminstration, and the Widdicombe committee of inquiry into the conduct of local government business. The Government are considering those comments in association with the many others that they have received.
