HC Deb 12 January 1987 vol 108 c6W
Mr. Deakins

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what grades of civil servant will be covered by his inquiry into insider share dealings; if they will be asked to give details of all their share transactions during the relevant period; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Howard

The powers vested in the inspectors under section 177 of the Financial Services Act can be exercised in respect of any person—and thus any civil servant—whom the inspectors consider is or may be able to give information concerning a contravention of the Company Securities (Insider Dealing) Act. It is for the inspectors to judge whether the details of any individual's dealings may be relevant to the investigation.
