Mr. Maclennan

asked the Paymaster General whether difficulties in the recruitment of supervisors to the Manpower Services Commission community programme have arisen among qualified applicants in receipt of benefits as a result of the average weekly wage limit of £67; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

The wages of management and supervisory posts in community programme projects are not included in the calculation of the £67 average. The Manpower Services Commission maximum reimbursement rates for supervisors are based on local authority, non-manual workers rates. The latest increase was effected from 1 July 1986.
