asked the Secretary of State for Energy how many new jobs have been created by the British Coal Enterprise scheme at the latest convenient date; and if he will give details for each area of Great Britain.

At the end of December 1986 British Coal Enterprise Ltd. had assisted in the creation of 13,077 new job opportunities. The regional breakdown is as follows:

The company has so far committed £20.8 million and has generated a total of £137 million of job creation investment.
