HC Deb 10 February 1987 vol 110 c191W
16. Mr. Holt

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what plans he has to speed up the decision-making process on claims for mobility allowance, attendance allowance and severe disablement allowance; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lyell

Since 1983, the average time taken to decide claims for attendance allowance and mobility allowance has reduced from 12½ weeks and 14½ weeks respectively to a current time of eight weeks. There are no comparable figures for severe disablement allowance. We are continuing to make improvements in both the system and staffing to further reduce these times.
