§ Mr. Roy Hughesasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make representations to the South African Government concerning detained trades unionists in the Media Workers Association of South Africa and the Paper, Wood and Allied Workers Union; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerWe have made representations about all detentions without charge under the state of emergency. This was done most recently on 19 December 1986 when, on behalf of the Twelve, Her Majesty's ambassador expressed our grave concern at growing evidence of serious abuses of human rights in South Africa including detentions.
