§ Mr. Clellandasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many television licences were issued to (a) betting shops, (b) public houses and (c) hotels in Great Britain in 1986; and what proportion of the total income from television licences each category represented.
§ Mr. MellorSeparate records are not kept of television licences issued to betting shops and public houses. As at 30 September 1986 1,574 special hotel licences were in force. The revenue raised by these licences represents 0.1 per cent. of total gross licence revenue. This is in addition to revenue from standard television licences issued to smaller hotels and guest houses, which are required to pay only the standard fee if television is installed in fewer than 16 bedrooms. The number of such licences is not recorded separately.
