§ 42. Mr. Haywardasked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will discuss with local 719W government organisations the opportunities for improvements to council housing offered by his Department's urban housing renewal unit.
§ Mr. John PattenYes. I have already had discussions with representatives of the local authority associations—most recently at a meeting with them on 19 January. At that meeting I offered further discussions between officials about the opportunities being opened up by estate action (as the urban housing renewal unit is now known) for improving council housing. Members of the estate action team are in constant touch with individual local authorities; so far over 130 local authorities have had detailed discussions and visits from estate action.
