HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c488W
54. Mr. Jackson

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how Her Majesty's Government will be represented at the forthcoming Southern African Development Co-ordination Conference (SADCC) in Gaborone; and what British assistance is being provided to SADCC member states.

Mr. Chris Patten

I shall be representing Her Majesty's Government at the forthcoming meeting in Gaborone of the Southern African Development Co-ordination Conference. We have so far pledged £25 million to SADCC. In the last financial year we provided £108 million in bilateral aid to SADCC member states. We expect to maintain substantial programmes of assistance.
