HC Deb 02 February 1987 vol 109 c521W
22. Mr. Dykes

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what recent representations he has received about the safety of travellers in the Channel tunnel.

Mr. David Mitchell

In the last six months, my Department has received some 260 representations from members of the public about the Channel tunnel. Only about 20 of these referred to safety issues. The public can be assured that the British and French Governments attach the utmost importance to safety in the tunnel, on which they will be advised by an independent binational safety authority.
