§ Mr. IrvingTo ask the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) how many mentally handicapped children have been taken into either voluntary or statutory care under the Children and Young Persons Act 1969; and in what proportion of these or both of the parents is mentally handicapped, over the most recent period for which figures are available;
(2) in how many cases, when one or both parents are mentally handicapped, children have been taken into care at birth, or subsequently, and for what reason, over the most recent period for which figures are available.
