HC Deb 17 December 1987 vol 124 cc716-7W
Mr. French

To ask the Secretary of State for Social Services how many nurses, midwives, doctors, professional medical staff, administrative officers and ancillary workers were employed by the Gloucester health authority for each of the last 10 years for which figures are available; and what was the average yearly salary for each of these groups of Health Service employees for the same period.

Mrs. Currie

[holding answer 7 December 1987]: Such information as is available centrally is shown in the tables.

Figures for all staff groups for Gloucester district health authority, which formed part of the Gloucester area health authority before the National Health Service reorganisation in 1982, are not available centrally. From 1982 we have figures for all doctors and dentists employed in the district health authority except for senior registrars and consultants, whose contracts are held by the regional health authority and cannot be identified centrally. There will therefore be more doctors and dentists actually working in the Gloucester district health authority than are accounted for in table 1.

It should be noted that it is likely that data for 1982 were effected by the April 1982 reorganisation.

Average yearly salary details for staff employed by the Gloucester health authority in the various staff groups are shown in table 2. Again details are not available centrally prior to 1982 due to the NHS reorganisation.
