HC Deb 17 December 1987 vol 124 c730W
52. Mr. Michael Morris

To ask the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will make a statement on the Food Advisory Committee's final report on the colouring matter in foods regulations 1979.

Mr. Donald Thompson

Regulations were laid before Parliament on 3 December (SI 1987/1987) implementing the Food Advisory Committee's recommendations to ban the use of any added colours (except three vitamin sources) in foods prepared specially for babies and young children, to delete yellow 2G from the permitted list of colours and to prohibit the use of methyl violet for marking rinds of citrus fruits.

We are still considering the other recommendations in the report in the light of public comments received on them. I shall make a further announcement when we have come to a conclusion on this.
