HC Deb 14 December 1987 vol 124 c363W
Mr. Nigel Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give the total revenue raised in the current financial year by each water authority; and if he will express this as a per capita sum for each adult over 18 years in the area of each authority.

Mr. Moynihan

The total revenue raised by each water authority in its budget for 1987–88 is set out in the table. These comprise all sources of income taken into revenue account, including grants and other non-charge income and land drainage precepts.

£ million
North West 423
Northumbrian 119
Severn Trent 455
Yorkshire 286
Anglian 347
Thames 574
Southern 199
Wessex 123
South West 98

Information on the number of adults over 18 years in each water authority area is not held centrally, primarily because water authority areas do not coincide with local authority areas.

Mr. Win Griffiths

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the sources and amounts of income and the total expenditure of each water authority in England and Wales in 1986.

Mr. Moynihan

The income and expenditure of the water authorities in England and Wales was set out in their annual reports and accounts for 1986–87 which were laid before Parliament on 15 July 1987. Copies are available in the Library. This information is summarised in "Water Facts" published annually by the Water Authorities Association. I will place a copy of the edition covering 1986–87 in the Library as soon as it is available.
