§ 83. Mr. SedgemoreTo ask the Minister for the Arts what will be the level of financial support for the arts in London in 1988–89.
§ Mr. LuceThe level of financial support for the arts in London is not determined centrally. Substantial assistance will be provided to London arts organisations from the central Government's arts programme out of my office's grants-in-aid of the Arts Council, the British Film Institute, the Crafts Council, the national museums and galleries, the British Library, and other bodies. In addition, the arts in London enjoy considerable support from local authorities in London and the Greater London Arts Association. Moreover, London has a thriving and successful commercial arts sector, the main financial support of which comes from those who use its services.
