HC Deb 11 December 1987 vol 124 c324W
Mr. Wilkinson

To ask the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has protested to the Government of Mozambique about the recent shooting down of an Air Malawi civil airliner by the Mozambique armed forces and about the consequent deaths of British passengers aboard the aeroplane; and what action he intends to take about this matter.

Mrs. Chalker

We have expressed concern about this tragic incident on a number of occasions, most recently during my visit to southern Africa. The Mozambican authorities have expressed their profound regret both to Her Majesty's Government and to the bereaved families. We have formally reserved the right to claim compensation.
