§ Sir Eldon GriffithsTo ask the Secretary of State for Defence if his Department's dispersal programme to Glasgow has been completed; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. YoungerThe dispersal programme, announced in 1979, committed us to transfer 1,400 jobs to Glasgow. Some 1,330 jobs have already been established there, of which 1,000 have been filled by local recruitment. It has now been proposed that the final tranche of 70 jobs should come fom the Directorate of Contracts (Stores and Logistics) in London and Leeds and move to Glasgow by the autumn of 1988. A significant degree of compensation for the loss of the contracts work in Leeds will be provided by the transfer of 35 jobs from London to the nearby Harrogate area.
