To ask the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland if he has any plans to seek to set up mini urban development corporations in Northern Ireland.

Mr. Needham

I plan to introduce legislation to create a development corporation which would be responsible for developing a series of vacant and underused sites along the banks of the River Lagan as it flows through Belfast's inner city.

I do not foresee the need to create new development corporations for other areas of Belfast or elsewhere.
