To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what action he will take to rectify the miscalculation in the future education and highways elements of grant-related expenditure in establishing Bolton's rate support grant; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Thurnham
To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will correct at the first supplementary report stage the errors so far discovered and acknowledged by his Department and any errors which may subsequently be confirmed in his calculation of the rate support grant settlement for 1988–89 for Bolton; and if he will make a statement.261W
§ Mr. Howard
Information supplied to the Department by the Department of Education and Science and used in calculating grant-related expenditure assessments for the 1988–89 RSG settlement had not taken into account further education students undertaking courses as part of the MSC technical and vocational education initiative. GREs for all education authorities will be revised in the first supplementary report for 1988–89 to correct this. There has been no miscalculation of the highway maintenance component of Bolton's GRE.
