§ Mr. Michael Forsyth[holding answer 8 December 1987]: Table 1 shows the full cost of pay settlements for National Health staff for the years 1984–85, 1985–86 and 1986–87. These figures are derived from broad estimates by health boards. I regret that figures for 1982–83 and 1983–84 are not available.
Boards' allocations have been increased year on year to allow for forecast inflation, including the cost of pay settlements. Financial allocations additional to this were made in 1984–85 and 1986–87 and these are shown in table 2. The amounts in table 2 are in addition to the allowances for forecast inflation already included in boards' allocations in those years.
