To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland if he will give the total number of redundancies in the shipbuilding industry in Strathclyde during the period from 1 January 1979 to 31 December 1986.

The number of redundancies involving 10 or more workers which were confirmed to the Manpower Services Commission as due to occur in the shipbuilding industry in Strathclyde in the period from 1 January 1979 to 31 December 1986 totalled 11,912.
