To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment what progress is being made by the Teesside urban development corporation in clearing and developing derelict areas in Teesside.

Excellent progress is being made in attracting new investment into Teesside. A major redevelopment of the former Smith's dock shipyard was announced during the Prime Minister's visit in September. Other schemes already in the pipeline include a leisure and commercial complex at Stockton racecourse, a marina at Hartlepool south docks, and developments at Bowesfield park, Belasis park and the former Acklam steelworks.
