To ask the Secretary of State for Scotland what has been the annual expenditure for each year since 1972 on industrial support and development in Scotland; and how much of it was on(a) regional development grant and (b) regional selective assistance.

[holding answer 26 November 1987]: Gross expenditure on activities which are now classified to the industry programme of my right hon. and learned Friend the Secretary of State for Scotland is set out below for each year since 1974–75; the information requested is not available for earlier years. In addition, a number of other Departments have incurred expenditure in Scotland on industrial support and development; comprehensive information on these is not available for the period considered.
