HC Deb 01 December 1987 vol 123 c545W
Mr. Harry Greenway

To ask the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will estimate the amount of money paid in grants to sports clubs of all kinds in each of the past five years for the purposes of teaching and coaching children in sport; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Moynihan

Sports clubs and governing bodies of sport can receive funding for facilities, equipment, training and coaching programmes, proficiency award schemes, administrative expenses and so on from a number of sources such as the Sports Council, local authorities, charitable trusts, and the private sector. Details of that funding are not kept in a form which enables the proportion of it specifically devoted to the training and teaching of children to be identified.
