§ Mr. Corbynasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has had with representatives of the Government of Sri Lanka concerning(a) the fate of Tamils returned to Sri Lanka who have been refused entry to other countries in Europe and elsewhere and (b) the situation of Viraj Mendis, a Sri Lankan currently staying in the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. WaddingtonWhen I met President Jayewardene and the Minister for National Security on 13 April I was given an assurance that no Sri Lankan national returning to Sri Lanka need fear for his treatment at the hands of the Sri Lankan authorities. Unless wanted on a criminal charge, they would be allowed free and unrestricted entry and freedom to go about their business.
