HC Deb 09 April 1987 vol 114 c373W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what is his Department's policy concerning Manpower Services Commission funding of Welsh-medium technical and vocational education initiative schemes.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

The technical and vocational education initiative is administered by the Manpower Services Commission in consultation with Education Departments. Local education authorities bid for funding to support such developments.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what guidance his Department has offered to the Manpower Services Commission concerning the funding of Welsh-medium technical and vocational education initiative schemes.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

My Department has made clear to the Manpower Services Commission my interest in Welsh language matters.

Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales why the 1986 application by the Welsh Joint Education Committee to the Manpower Services Commission for a four-year £1 million Welsh-medium technical and vocational education activities project was rejected.

Mr. Wyn Roberts

Within the funds available and in the light of the announcement to extend TVEI to all schools and colleges, the MSC considered that other projects submitted were more relevant to the overall aim of the TVEI.
