HC Deb 09 April 1987 vol 114 c388W
Mr. Dalyell

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much was realised at the sale in Liverpool on 7 April of equipment from the Falkland Islands; to what use the proceeds of that sale will be put; what proportion of the equipment has been re-exported as a result of the sale; and on what basis the port of Liverpool was selected as the agents for this auction.

Mr. Chope

The sale in Liverpool on 7 April was privately organised and the Department was not involved. At the end of the Mount Pleasant airport contract Laing Mowlem ARC Joint Venture, the main contractor, sold its surplus plant and equipment to a company which arranged and paid for its transportation to the United Kingdom. The purchaser arranged the sale at Liverpool (through a firm of auctioneers) and the proceeds belong to him.
