§ Mr. Tony Banks
asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what was the level of British Government aid to Nicaragua in 1986.
§ Mr. Chris Patten
In 1986 British bilateral aid to Nicaragua consisted of:
- a. Support for small development projects co-financed with British voluntary agencies under the joint funding scheme. Eleven projects were approved in the financial year 1985–86 to a value of some £100,000.
- b. £82,500 in response to an appeal by Christian Aid to help displaced persons in Nicaragua.
- c. £3,200 in technical co-operation for training in Britain.
Nicaragua also benefited from European Community aid to the region, to which Britain makes a substantial contribution.
