HC Deb 21 October 1986 vol 102 c827W
Mr. Freeson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment, pursuant to his replies to the right hon. Member for Brent, East on 4 July, Official Report, column 675, how much was provided for housing associations to build new homes by his Department in each of the last three years; and how much finance was provided by the private sector.

Mr. Tracey

Development finance for registered housing associations' projects for fair rent and low cost home ownership is provided either by the Housing Corporation within the approved development programme agreed by this Department, or by local authorities within their housing investment programmes, or by the private sector. The Department then pays housing association grant on completion of the projects. The Department does not hold information on private sector funding. The figures for Housing Corporation and local authority investment in providing homes either by newbuild or rehabilitation are as follows:

Gross lending to Housing Association (England) for fair rent and low cost home ownership
Housing Corporation £ million Local authorities £ million
1983–84 734 138
1984–85 697 149
1985–86 711 130
