§ Mr. Raffanasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a detailed statement on the Government's pilot teacher appraisal scheme.
§ Mrs. RumboldMy right hon. Friend yesterday invited six local education authorities to form a consortium to pilot teacher appraisal in their schools. The six are:
- Croydon
- Cumbria
- Newcastle
- Salford
- Somerset
- Suffolk
The project is to be funded through the education support grant arrangements and a steering group is being established which will involve representatives of the Secretary of State, local education authorities and the teachers' unions.
It is hoped that the pilot work can begin in January.
