§ Mr. Lawson[pursuant to the reply, 24 November 1986]: The value of goods seized by Her Majesty's Custom and Excise under section 17 of the Trade Descriptions Act 1968 as being counterfeit in each of the last five years was as follows:
£ 1981 Nil 1982 30,549 1983 6,000 1984 Nil 1985 Nil Customs have also seized considerable quantities of goods under section 16 of the Trade Descriptions Act, 240W which prohibits the importation of goods bearing a false indication of the country of manufacture. Some of these goods have also been counterfeit, but the records available do not indicate which.
