§ Mr. Roger Kingasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the 100 major new local road schemes which he has indicated will be able to start following the provision of more resources as announced in his statement of 6 November.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyIt would not be appropriate to do this. My assessment is based on local highway authority plans and recent performance together with an estimate of what they could do with the available resources. It is for them to decide which schemes they start in accordance 69W with their priorities. Many will be covered by the 1987–88 transport supplementary grant settlement which has yet to be announced.
§ Mr. Roger Kingasked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the new trunk road schemes which he expects to start in the next three years as announced in his statement of 6 November.
§ Mr. Peter BottomleyDetails of schemes in the trunk road programme are contained in the report "National Roads England 1985". It is not appropriate to specify expected starts in the next three years in more detail. The timing of starts of individual schemes depends upon progress through pre-construction procedures which can be significantly affected by factors outside the Department's control.
