HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c15W
38. Mr. Chapman

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will make a statement on progress on international co-operation and exchange of information relating to civil nuclear power issues, following the Tokyo summit communiqué.

Mr. Peter Walker

Since the Tokyo summit communiqué was issued in May, the IAEA has adopted and opened for signature two new conventions on early notification of a nuclear accident, and mutual assistance in the case of a nuclear accident or radiological emergency. Fifty-eight states have already signed these conventions, including the United Kingdom.

The IAEA is considering a number of further proposals.
