HC Deb 24 November 1986 vol 106 c33W
Mr. Kirkwood

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what steps he is taking to ensure avoidance of delays in awarding pay parity for clinical academic staff with National Health Service colleagues.

Mr. Walden

My right hon. Friend met representatives of the Committee of Vice-Chancellors and Principals on 13 October. He explained the nature of the Governments willingness to compensate universities for additional costs involved in applying to clinical academic staff pay awards recommended for NHS hospital doctors by the Doctors and Dentists Review Body (DDRB). The Clinical Academic Staff Salaries Committee subsequently determined that clinical academic staff should receive the award with effect from 1 July 1986. Now that the Government's position is understood delays in the application of DDRB awards to clinical academic staff should no longer occur.
