§ Mr. Cohenasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department whether he proposes any improvements in police training to overcome the application of racial stereotypes to black people as recommended by the Home Office research study, "Police—Public Encounters"; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Douglas HoggThe study of "Police — Public Encounters" was designed to produce material for training in policing skills. It draws particular attention to the need to overcome racial stereotypes of black people and provides resource material for training to that purpose. Significant changes are being made to police training to ensure that such problems are addressed and the study is making a useful contribution to the effectiveness of such training.
