§ Mr. Lathamasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations have been received by the Minister of State, the hon. Member for Wallasey (Mrs. Chalker) advocating European legislation to prevent discriminatory trade boycotts which do not have international sanction; what reply has been sent; and whether he will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ChalkerI have received letters on 17 September and 22 October 1986 from the chairman of the Anti-Boycott Co-ordination Committee of the British-Israel Chamber of Commerce, to which I replied on 29 September and 30 October respectively: there is no consensus within the European Community in favour of such legislation.
