§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Prime Minister (1) if she will make a statement on Her Majesty's Government's policy towards publication of books by former members of the security services;
(2) if she will make a statement on the measures being taken by Her Majesty's Government to restrain publication in Australia about the security services.
§ The Prime MinisterMembers and former members of the security service owe a lifelong duty of confidentiality to the Crown. Unauthorised publication by them of books about their work violates this obligation. The Attorney-General has accordingly applied in the Supreme Court of New South Wales for an injunction to prevent publication of a book by Mr. Peter Wright, a former member of the security service. The case is sub judice in Australia.
