What is their attitude towards China's application to rejoin GATT.

The Government supported the granting of observer status in GATT to China and welcome the possibility of China's resuming its status as a contracting party on suitable terms. China's application must now be examined by GATT to determine what terms may be appropriate to an economy of the scale and structure of China. The Community as a whole will consider shortly what attitude to adopt.
