Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what recent representations Her Majesty's Government have made to the Government of Colombia concerning the repression of human rights in that country.

Mr. Eggar

Her Majesty's embassy in Bogota closely monitors the complex human rights situation in Colombia and approached the Colombian authorities directly about our concerns over human rights cases there last month. We have also made our strong views on human rights violations abundantly clear in the various United Nations human rights fora.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what representations Her Majesty's Government have made to the Government of Colombia concerning the recent murder of British resident Mr. Heber Marin; and if he will make a statement.

The staffing levels are kept under constant review and are adjustable as changing circumstances may require.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what arrangements for (a) translation, (b) shelter and (c) refreshments are made for visitors to Her Majesty's mission in (a) Dacca, (b) Islamabad, (c) Delhi, (d) Calcutta, (e) Bombay and (f) Colombo who are seeking either visitor visas or entry clearance.

Official interpreters are available to interpret and to translate applicants' documents where necessary at all the posts concerned. I shall write to the hon. Member about the shelter and refreshment facilities that are available.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs whether he has decided on a new level of visa fees.

We enjoy warm relations with the democratic Government of Colombia. A representative of the Government attended the inauguration of President Barco in August 1986.
