§ Mr. John PattenMy Department's report "Housing Initiatives for Single People of Working Age" describes a number of ways in which both the private and public sector can provide housing for single people. Other measures are the Government's hostels initiative, the introduction of shorthold tenancies and other steps to encourage lettings in the private rented sector. Further measures will include new housing association schemes for shared accommodation for young people wishing to move to take up employment. I outlined these and other measures in my response to a debate initiated by my hon. Friend on 4 November.
