HC Deb 04 November 1986 vol 103 c397W
Mr. Home Robertson

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what will be the scope of the survey and data to be provided by the common services agency of the Scottish Health Service to the South of Scotland electricty board and the Lothian health board as a base line health survey in the area around Torness power station; what is the estimated cost of this survey; and if his Department will meet this cost.

Mr. John MacKay

The initial base line study of data for the area around Torness power station which will be conducted by the Common Services Agency for the Scottish Health Service is an examination of the incidence of all cancers in young persons (0–24 age group) and leukaemia and selected other cancers in adults in the period 1975–84 within 12.5 km and between 12.5 km and 25 km of the proposed reactor site.

The analysis will make use of existing data sets and the cost (estimated to be about £550) of this initial study will be met by the Common Services Agency.
