HC Deb 04 November 1986 vol 103 cc392-3W
Mr. Stuart Holland

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department (1) if he will provide figures detailing arrests resulting from the searches conducted at the Afro-Caribbean Club and other property and premises searched during Operation Condor;

(2) how many people were arrested as a result of Operation Condor directly; and how many were arrested and subsequently charged with public order offences.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that there were 86 arrests on 24 July arising from Operation Condor. None of those arrested was subsequently charged with any public order offence.

Mr. Stuart Holland

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many locations other than the Afro-Caribbean Club were searched by the police as part of Operation Condor; and if he will list these other locations.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that a total of 12 locations were searched under warrant, including the Afro-Caribbean Club. Eight of these locations were within the Brixton division and four elsewhere in south London. It would not be appropriate to publicise the addresses.

Mr. Stuart Holland

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what was the number of arrests for the evening of 24 July in the police divisions which cover the London borough of Lambeth.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

I understand from the Commissioner of Police of the Metropolis that during the period 4.30 pm to midnight, 43 people were arrested and taken to police stations within the Lambeth division. A further 37 people were arrested and taken to police stations outside the division.

Mr. Stuart Holland

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many officers were used during Operation Condor; and if he will provide the information by rank and police division.

Mr. Douglas Hogg

798. The officers were drawn from divisions and branches throughout the Metropolitan police district and it would be possible to give a breakdown by rank and division only at disproportionate cost.
