Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many private contractors have had to withdraw from catering, cleaning and laundry commitments in the National Health Service.

Mrs. Currie

To date the Department has been notified of 12 contracts awarded to private contractors which have been terminated, or are due to be terminated, before the end of the contract period.

Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how many private companies engaged in National Health Service contracts have had penalties imposed upon them for failing to meet their contracts.
